Facades, interiors and furniture on trial

In the «Facades, interiors and furniture» research field, new products are developed and existing ones tested for suitability and safety. They are also enhanced where necessary.

As part of research projects and services for business, the researchers develop and optimize products and systems in the «Facades, interiors and furniture» research field. They take into account all aspects of development, from the requirements of construction physics and the characteristics of materials, through to their manufacture. In the internationally accredited and certified laboratory, the properties of components and products are tested for their suitability and safety. The researchers also work actively on domestic and international standardization committees and specialist groups.

Core competences

  • Product and process development
  • Product and component testing
  • Suitability and safety

Specific research: Saving heating energy with the help of reflective layers (reducing transmission heat loss)

Saving energy and thermal insulation are key issues in new buildings and redevelopment projects. By installing reflective layers it is possible to increase savings and make improvements. In addition to optimizing the insulating layers, radiated heat present in the room is reflected inward by appropriate layers on the room surfaces or in the wall. This increases the proportion of infrared radiation inside the room and reduces the loss of transmission heat through the external wall. Thermal comfort is improved with heat-reflecting surfaces and heating costs are reduced as a result of lower room temperatures.
