3. International cookery course
On 25 November 2013 the Department of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering at Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH held an international and interdisciplinary cooking course. The international cookery course was the third event to attract major interest during the year.
Its aim was to unite cultures and promote "internationalisation at home". Local students cooked international dishes under the direction of foreign students from these countries. The event was to help students overcome their inhibitions and promote interest in spending a term abroad. The event was also designed to offer foreign students a platform outside their day-to-day studies to establish social contacts.
Around 25 students from the discipline of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering met on 25 November 2013 in the school kitchen of the Emmental Berufschule vocational school. Under the expert guidance of school cook Serge Muheim, the students split into four groups and got stuck in to the preparation of two Peruvian, an Austrian and a Swiss meal. The diversity of the meals was considerable and the selection ranged from Arroz con Pollo peruano – a Peruvian speciality – right to “Züri Gschnätzlets” – Zurich-style sliced meat. Each group was responsible for preparing a starter, main course and dessert. The different dishes were then set out as a buffet, allowing all the participants to taste them.
