Music
Course summary
The bachelor course in Music offers prospective musicians a broad education in the fundamentals of practice and theory. Its core comprises, according to the main subject taken, work on the instrument, voice or in the areas of composition and media expression forms. Interaction with music theory, musical improvisation, historical performance practice and contemporary music provides the framework.
The modular structure of the course with its interdisciplinary components makes it possible to establish a dialogue with other art forms. It paves the way to a prospective musical career as an improviser, interpreter, composer or agent.
The bachelor’s degree is not a professional qualification. The course prepares students for the specialisation of a master’s course.

Perspectives
The main aim of the course is to impart the fundamental skills of the art of music in the areas of improvisation, composition, conducting, theory and media, and the ability to work as an independent artist. Among the learning goals are the development of music criticism skills and multi-disciplinary work with other schools in the University. Other aims are the fostering of independent work, autonomous time management, and the targeted use of the student’s own resources. Along with progression to the master’s courses, transfer to other music-related activities such as journalism or the musical supplies business are envisionable future options.
