Nutrition and Dietetics

Course summary

The students’ focus of interest is on nutritional science and medicine. They are willing to strengthen patients’ motivation and help them to change their dietary habits. Cooperation with physicians, individual advice for patients and work with other professional groups are the focus of activity. On completion of their training, the graduates take responsibility for planning, implementation and monitoring of clinical dietary therapies and individual and group consultations.

 

They are able to perform explanatory and information work in the area of dietary healthcare and prevention and develop the resources and media needed for their work. They are assisted by established research findings in the area of dietary science.

 

The versatile course of studies also opens up the opportunity to work in industry or in community care. Full-time studies are followed by a compulsory ten-month additional clinical practice module.

Perspectives

Professional dieticians and nutritionists advise and train individuals, groups and organisations on all kinds of nutritional questions. In so doing they offer explanations, information, advice, treatment and training. They work in an interdisciplinary manner and on scientific principles. Their clients include all types of people of all ages and with varying concerns, from children to the elderly, from the overweight to athletes. They also advise the critically ill; advising the sick is a key part the profession. They may work in hospitals and rehabilitation clinics, homes for the elderly and care homes, doctors’ practices, public dietary advice centres, dietary advice practices, schools, health insurance funds, sales and marketing organisations, the media or in the food industry.
