Federally recognised qualifications

Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science

Bachelor courses lead to a federally recognised and protected Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) qualification. Most Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH bachelor degrees are valid as professional qualifications.


The Bachelor’s degree is a university qualification and entitles its holder to entrance to corresponding further studies at universities of applied sciences, universities, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology, and to colleges of teacher education. It also allows access to corresponding courses abroad. The admitting institution sets the admission conditions.

Master of Arts / Master of Science

The consecutive Master courses lead to a federally recognised and protected Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MSc) qualification.  The consecutive Masters courses are not to be confused with the further education Master’s programmes:

 

  • Consecutive Master
    The consecutive Master course builds on the Bachelor course and is part of basic higher education (Bologna Second Cycle). Master’s courses impart deeper, more specialised knowledge and lead to a higher qualification. They qualify holders to undertake research and higher management roles. The consecutive Master qualification entitles holders to undertake doctoral studies (Bologna Third Cycle). The course leads to a federally recognised Master of Arts or Master of Science qualification.

 

 

  • Master of / Executive Master of Advanced Studies (MAS / EMBA)
    The further education Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) and Executive Master of Advanced Studies (EMBA) courses replace the previous “Nachdiplom” courses. They are part of further education and impart specialised or general competences and bring professional knowledge levels up to date.
