The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) is a degree programme developed jointly by the Swiss universities of applied sciences that allows students to build upon the Bachelor of Science in Engineering and specialise in the area of building and planning. The research activities are organised into a master research unit (MRU). The «Integral Planning and Construction» MRU is geared towards occupational areas (construction in existing buildings and building physics, wood and composite construction, natural phenomena and geotechnics) in which future challenges in construction will take place and in which there will be a great need for highly specialised experts.

Students are integrated into the research units of the Bern University of Applied Sciences in teams and collaborate on specific research projects. This is where students undertake their specialist training. The course covers both theory (technical-scientific modules and theoretical principles) and context (management, communication and culture) modules; it also comprises a professional specialisation, which includes the Master thesis.

The Master of Science in Engineering prepares students for responsible positions in the field of building and planning. The professional specialisation qualifies graduates for demanding activities in a special field. Graduates are in the position to take on management tasks as well as assume responsibility for interdisciplinary projects.
