Hauptstrasse, Magglingen

The Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen SFISM is the only Swiss university exclusively dedicated to teaching, research and development in the field of sport. Part of the Federal Office for Sport FOSPO, SFISM is also affiliated with Bern University of Applied Sciences. Situated at an altitude of 900 metres above the bi-lingual city of Biel/Bienne, and accessible from there by funicular, this educational centre in the Bernese Jura offers spectacular views of Lake Biel, the Mittelland, and the Alps.

Arriving by public transport

The funicular ride from the Biel/Bienne station in the valley up to Magglingen takes around 9 to 11 minutes, with panoramic views. Upon arrival, SFISM is directly adjacent to the station.
The Magglingen funicular station is just a 10-minute walk from the Biel/Bienne railway station. Line 11 of the Biel/Bienne public transport network (bus) also connects the valley station with the Biel/Bienne railway station.
From the Biel/Bienne railway station there are connections to Bern, Zurich, Basel and Geneva.

Arriving by car

From Bern
A1, follow signs for Zurich/Basel/Interlaken/Biel. Take the Schönbühl exit 38/9 following signs for Biel. In Biel/Bienne, continue towards Solothurn. On Reuchenettestrasse, follow signs for Delsberg/Delémont, turn left towards Leubringen and continue to the entrance to Magglingen. Continue for 500 metres and you will arrive at the main university building of SFISM.

From Jura
Take the Hauptstrasse to Tavannes. From Tavannes, take the motorway towards Biel. Take the Biel-Zentrum exit. Continue 500 metres and turn right on to the first street, Leubringenstrasse. Continue straight ahead to the entrance to Magglingen. Continue for 500 metres and you will arrive at the main university building of SFISM.

From Zurich/Solothurn
A5 motorway to Biel/Bienne. Take exit 27 following signs for Biel/Neuchâtel and continue approx. 300 metres on Johann-Renfer-Strasse. Turn left on to Solothurnstrasse and continue approx. 1.5 kilometres. Turn right towards Delémont on Hermann-Lienhard-Strasse, then turn right again on to Reuchenettestrasse and continue to the junction towards Leubringen. Continue straight ahead to the entrance to Magglingen. Continue for 500 metres and you will arrive at the main university building of SFISM.

From Neuenburg
Drive along the lakeshore on Hauptstrasse towards Biel/Bienne. Continue towards Delsberg. On Reuchenettestrasse. On Reuchenettestrasse, follow signs for Delsberg/Delémont, turn left towards Leubringen and continue to the entrance to Magglingen. Continue for 500 metres and you will arrive at the main university building of SFISM.

Parking

CHF 2/hr; open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
In parking lots P1/P2/P3/P4/P5/P6, a day pass costs CHF 16.
In parking lots P7/P8/P9/P10, a day pass costs CHF 10.
The passes are only valid in the parking lots in which they were validated.
Free parking in Magglingen is only available at Hohmatt.

Room hire

The National Sports Centre in Magglingen (NSM) is a training, sports and conference centre for Swiss sports. Magglingen has over 80,000 overnight stays annually.
Athletes have access to sports science support through the wide range or services offered by SFISM, plus excellent training opportunities, all in one location. The centre has indoor and outdoor sports facilities for all sports, as well as seminar rooms, lodging and dining options.
