Portrait

Data governance as a discipline involves the establishment and development of value creation from data as a management task in all areas and at all levels of your company. As this is a cross-departmental activity, it also involves the development of the HR, organisational, technical and cultural prerequisites for the use of data, while at the same time ensuring that the legal and ethical framework is observed.

In this specialist course, executives will be able to comprehensively expand their skills in this field. This will be achieved by using practical examples and a consideration of the underlying concepts for the implementation of data governance in your own company.

Course objectives

You are a member of the management or board of directors or work in another managerial post - for example, that of Chief Data Officer or data steward - and are responsible for the use of data in your company or in one of its departments/subdivisions. You wish to make data governance part of the managerial responsibilities in your company. You will acquire the relevant conceptual and practical knowledge in data governance on three objective-orientated course days.

Training objective

On the specialist data governance course, we will be dealing with the following aspects:

  • The conceptual basis and objectives of data governance ("data value creation")

  • The legal and ethical-moral framework

  • How data governance works in the context of practical case studies

  • Systematic description of the tasks, skills, roles and responsibilities relating to data governance

  • Options for the introduction or further development of data governance in your company

This managerial continuing education course will enable you to develop the skills required to promote value creation using data available to your company. The focus will be on the development of a roadmap for the introduction of data governance in your area of activities.

  • Value creation from data as a company task: data economy, data value creation, data strategy

  • Basic tasks of data governance: generating the framework and conditions for successful value creation from data

  • HR, organisational, technical and cultural requirements for data value creation

  • The legal and ethical-moral framework

  • Options for the introduction or further development of data governance in your company or company division ("roadmap")

The methods, concepts and theoretical principles will be taught by experienced and practice-orientated experts on the basis of case studies, group work and keynote presentations. In a positive learning-orientated atmosphere, the focus will be on each participant developing a roadmap for their own company. This means that there will be a direct link with your own professional activities.

A tried-and-tested blend of methods will be used on the data governance course:

  • Keynote presentations

  • Case studies

  • Work in small groups

  • Plenary discussions

  • Short presentations

  • Experts from the business sector

Participants will be required to regularly attend classroom lessons and successfully complete all proofs of competence. The proof of competence will take the form of submission of an outline for the introduction or further development of data governance within the participant’s company and the subsequent presentation and discussion of the results.
