Content + Structure

Pooling knowledge and information. Using them effectively and efficiently. Further developing your organisation. You will see knowledge as a strategic necessity, which you collect, exchange, store, integrate into your daily work and incorporate into your individual projects. This extra-occupational continuing education course in knowledge management will comprehensively further your skills and challenge you. You will learn to master the most important methods and practices for holistic knowledge management in your company. You will gain an understanding of the benefits of knowledge management measures from the perspective of your own organisation. You will improve your skills. The focus will be on the critical thinking through of knowledge management concepts and the recognition and development of solutions for your own practice. The goal is to make knowledge usable - true to the motto: knowledge that is effective. 

Training objective

On this course you will learn all important aspects of dealing with knowledge in your organisation (company, public administration, NPO): 

  • You will acquire knowledge of basic concepts and problems as well as how to employ a holistic knowledge management process 

  • You will learn how to introduce impact-orientated knowledge management practices and gain an overview of supporting tools and apps 

  • You will learn how to introduce knowledge management including business case development in organisations 

  • You will learn how to systematically apply specific practices to your own problems 

  • You will learn how to introduce, concretise and communicate the potential of the measures in your own organisation 

  • You will learn how to identify problems and challenges when dealing with knowledge in your own practice 

  • You will be able to undertake critical analysis of knowledge management concepts and recognise possible solutions for your own practice 

  • You will learn to promote mutual exchange and insight into the knowledge management of your organisation 

  • You will learn how to integrate knowledge management into the business processes of your company 

This specialist course is part of the CAS Advanced Project Management. The CAS consists of the following three courses: 

  • Specialist course in Project Management 

  • Specialist course in Knowledge Management 

  • Specialist course in Agile Team Leadership 

This specialist course will help you develop your skills in handling knowledge. 

Specifically, the topic will be processed as follows: 

  • You will gain insights into and learn how to control knowledge management as a networked cross-departmental task and the resulting interactions 

  • You will gain insights into how knowledge management functions as a cross-departmental operational activity and is part of other activities and processes 

  • You will learn current concepts of knowledge management (history, positioning and relevance, basics, definitions and models) 

  • You will learn to recognise feasibility, costs and strategic relevance of knowledge management in your current corporate or organisational practice 

  • You will learn how to practically implement knowledge management in various operational activities such as project management, leadership, quality management, IT and communication and process management

  • You will develop a personal understanding of knowledge management

  • You will design a knowledge analysis in your area of activity 

  • You will discuss ideas and challenges in your company

  • You will develop and evaluate approaches to improve knowledge management in your everyday work 

  • You will look at challenges in dealing with knowledge in your company or organisation and those of other participants

  • You will present and discuss your implementation options

In this extra-occupational course in knowledge management, we will be attaching major importance to the exchange of ideas within the group and application of what has been learned in practice. You will be required to invest considerable time in the appropriate application of the concepts taught and reflect on your handling of knowledge.  The practice-orientated and up-to-date lessons will be made more informal by the introduction of keynote presentations. 

Challenges in practice 

In the lessons, we will be dealing with practical cases and concrete issues from your everyday professional life. Together with experienced and competent lecturers, you will analyse problem situations, develop options for action and approaches to solutions and evaluate their effects. In the closing event, the action plans to be implemented will be outlined in short presentations. 

You will be able to systematically develop solutions for your company and your learning methodology. This will enable you to generate tangible added value. 

You will be required to write a case report on the knowledge management challenge you have chosen. 

Qualification + Title

Specialist course in Knowledge Management at Bern University of Applied Sciences  

All participants will receive a confirmation of participation. 

Participants who meet the admission requirements for studying at university level and who successfully complete the proof of competence will be awarded 3 ECTS credits. These will be shown on the course confirmation certificate.

Requirements + Admission

This continuing education course in knowledge management is designed for line and project managers who wish to increase effectiveness and efficiency in their area of responsibility by means of knowledge management.

You do not need to meet any specific admission requirements to participate in this specialist course. If you wish to obtain ECTS credits, the general conditions for continuing education will apply: you will require a university degree or equivalent qualification and at least two years' professional experience. If you have any questions, please contact the study administration or the course coordinator. 

Knowledge + skills

Your professional situation provides a good breeding ground for your personal development and for implementing new ideas. You will need to be willing to introduce challenges from your practice into the classroom.

The duration of the course is 4 to 5 teaching days. Lessons will be held every two weeks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Maximum 15 participants.
