Content + Structure

Profile

Organisations can only react adequately to social changes or new political conditions if they have a clearly defined strategy. Strategy development is particularly challenging for you as the head of a government institution or a non-profit organisation, because, among other things, you are competing for secure financing. In this specialist course you will learn about and apply specific instruments to support these development processes in your organisation.

Course objectives

  • You will acquire enhanced skills that will help you deal with strategic challenges.
  • You will be made familiar with instruments that will enable you to expertly analyse and assess the strategic position of your organisation.
  • You will learn how best to make conscious and future-orientated decisions with regard to long-term goals.
  • You will be made familiar with concepts and tools to plan, help shape and accompany the strategy process for your own organisation.
  • You will acquire the necessary skills to negotiate in a strategy process with the relevant stakeholders within the limits of your public or political mandate.
  • You will have in-depth project management insights and be prepared to acquire the Level D IPMA Certification.

The content of the specialist course will be as follows:

  • strategy development and implementation using the 10-phase management cycle (dynamic approach) in connection with a live case
  • instruments for organisational and environmental analysis
  • deriving future scenarios and trends from the influences that exist in your specific environment
  • strategy transfer
  • controlling and evaluation of strategy processes
  • intensive project management as preparation for the IPMA Certification
  • inputs from lecturers as an introduction to the topic, knowledge transfer and suggestions for in-depth discussion
  • live case work with examples from your own professional context
  • interactive and participative design with group work and presentations

On the basis of their practical experience, a professional will highlight the strategic challenges facing his/her organisation. Participants will work in small groups to develop proposals for strategy development and implementation relevant to the described baseline situation. At the end of the specialist course, participants will present their implementation proposals in groups and discuss the feasibility of the proposals with the professional. Participants will then be required to write an individual reflective report on the process. The following are components of the assessment: strategy development proposal (group work), presentation (group work), reflective report (individual work).
