Nutritional therapy, intervention and prevention
Nutritionists mainly work in clinical environments or advisory practice. Conducting nutritional treatments and introducing tailored interventions are all part of a day’s work. To support nutritional practice, we develop nutritional therapy interventions and assess these using outcome research. At the same time, nutrition is becoming ever more important in public health, which is why we also focus on developing target group-specific interventions for health promotion and prevention.
Our fields of research include the following areas:
- Noncommunicable diseases: e.g. metabolic syndrome, obesity, type 2 diabetes
- Food allergies, food intolerances, FODMAP (fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and polyols)
- Research on nutritional advice: complex intervention models, evaluation of results, quality of nutritional advice
New technologies and nutritional advice
With the development and dissemination of new technologies, e-health is currently a highly relevant topic among various population groups. In order to meet the need for the use of applications and devices in nutritional issues and nutrition practice, we conduct interdisciplinary work in the following areas:
- Validation of nutrition studies using new technologies (apps)
- Analysis of suitability of new technologies for nutrition practice
- Evaluation and development of (individual) nutritional advice on the basis of new technologies
Communication of nutrition issues
Our goal is to simplify communication in the field of nutrition. Taking into account linguistic, cultural and socioeconomic challenges, we aim to ensure that as large a proportion of the population as possible has access to relevant nutrition information.
We develop and evaluate nutritional recommendations and means of communication for specific target groups (children, migrants, older people) and investigate forms of advice and effective communication that are crucial for optimal treatment results.
