Situation

UNCTAD, through its BioTrade Initiative, has been working to support developing countries in strengthening their capacity to design and implement mutually supportive trade and biodiversity objectives at all levels. Particularly, it is implementing the Global BioTrade Programme on "Linking trade, biodiversity, and sustainable development". Activities are focused on coordination and facilitation efforts to ensure that key stakeholders seize and capitalize on trade opportunities by linking biodiversity and sustainable development, thereby advancing the implementation of the SDGs and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

Approche

The objective of this subcontract is to support the implementation of the BioTrade Facilitation Programme while seizing opportunities arising from the Decisions adopted at the CBD COP16 and the UNFCCC COP29. It will also support identifying future areas of the Trade for Biodiversity Programme and inform UNCTAD16. In close collaboration with Helvetas WFC program, HAFL will co- develop a proposal on UNCTAD’s Trade for Biodiversity Programme, 2025 – 2029, and contribute to an organized CoP with the UN trade community.
