Pressure on water resources will increase. As 70% of water flows into agriculture, efficient water use in agric. prod. is key to avoid water scarcity and conflicts. Water productivity is a way of expressing how efficiently water is used.

Contexte initial

In order to assess the sustainability of water use in agriculture and to plan optimisation strategies, assessing water productivity not only allows evaluating water utilisation practices but also offers the option to estimate changes in farmers' income due to improvements in water management. A tool for small-scale farmers is developed that allows optimizing farming operations in terms of income and water productivity under rainfed and irrigated conditions.
