Optimized Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Wood Behavior and Processing for Improved Material and Product Properties

Heat treatments are effective method to modify the properties of wood. It reduces the hygroscopicity and increases resistance to fungus. But undesired effects like loss of strength limit strongly its utilization in construction.

Contexte initial

This project consists of different parts: preparation of mild heat-treated specimens by one and two stages processing will be carried out. Then, short and long terms mechanical characterisation, colour, hygral behaviour, resistant to fungus will be determined. Chemical analysis will be done to understand the chemical alterations of wood constituents.


Development of wood thermo-hydrous treatment technique at mild temperature varying between 110 and 150°C. It is intends to improve the mechanical and physical characteristics of wood and reduce and even eliminate the undesired effects.

Compétences clés

Competency in wood mechanics and wood chemistry are required.
