Student Day 2012

Student Day 2012

Curling Event @ Curling Bahn Allmend, Bern

«Attention please, it is very slippery» – yes, the young ladies who gave us an introduction into some serious curling play, told us but none of us has expected it to be that hard balancing on the ice. Nine incoming students from China, Spain, Germany and Austria as well as one local student gathered last Friday evening for a «borderline experience».

For myself, I know now that curling is a seriously understated sport because it is incredible difficult not to fall down and make a fool of yourself. At first, the biggest challenge was to «walk» on the ice wearing some sort of plastic slippers over the shoes. Afterwards the instructors told us how to glide on the ice having the broom in one hand and the stone in the other hand. This exercise overstrained most of us already. After 90 minutes of «playing» we were glad that no bones no teeth’s were broken and we were ready for a crispy Rösti at the restaurant Caledonia. The evening was most enjoyable and we had a good laugh all together as well as the deep insight that it is not possible to learn curling within 90 minutes…
