Welcome Event 23 February 2018
On 23 February 2018, Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) invited all incoming international students to the semester’s welcome event.
We joined at 6.30 pm at the meeting room of the Ka-We-De artificial ice rink in Bern. The participating students were from all over the world: Belgium, Brasil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands and even from South Corea, hosting now the winter Olympic Games!
Together with my colleague Ben Hochreutener we presented the different activities the international students can take part in during their stay, including those offered by BFH sports and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN).
Then the skating and ice-stone game (sort of boccia) could finally begin. The guys of the ice-hockey-nation Canada felt like home on the ice at the chilling temperatures (-5 degrees and north wind). They even didn’t wear gloves!!! Others, like our Bresilian visitor, were shivering from cold while having their first experience with ice skating. Fortunately they were kindly supported by their colleagues.
Most importantly, both the professionals and amateurs seemed to have a lot of fun. The incoming students enjoyed the chance to get to know each other and do some networking.
To keep our strength up, BFH offered during the whole event snacks, bruschetta, sandwiches and warmly welcomed at these temperatures: hot drinks!
