Wanted: Hackathon organizers interested in diversity and inclusion
20.11.2024 The Hack Integration project aims to foster more diverse and inclusive hackathons, bringing high-skill refugees to events, and using suggested team algorithms to form diverse and inclusive teams. To this end, Bern University of Applied Sciences and the University of Zurich are looking for events that are interested in high-skill refugee attendees as well as events that are interested in testing a team suggestion tool.
The most important things in brief
-
The Hack Integration Project is recruiting high-skill refugees to attend events.
-
The Project will test whether a suggested team algorithm leads to more diverse and inclusive teams.
-
Organizers are invited to recruit participants by registering their hackathon in our online hackfinder tool.
Everyone talks about «diversity» and «inclusion» but what does it really mean? Recruiting high-skill refugee attendees is one way to make your event more diverse. A team suggestion encouraging groups with the right skill-mix is one way to further inclusion. Together your event will be more diverse, inclusive, and ultimately more productive!
Register your event, try team suggestions
We are looking for hackathons from all over Switzerland. As a first step, organisers can register their events in our hackfinder tool. This is a general participant recruitment tool, that will be highlighted in the high-skill refugee community. As a second step, you can join our study by testing a team suggestion algorithm. Many events have too-small or too-large teams with unevenly distributed skills. Our tool considers participants’ preferences and skills to suggest more mixed teams. As part of the project, your participants will participate in standardised evaluation survey yielding pooled anonymised data from across multiple events, which will be used by our research team, but can also help you improve your event! Contact us at hackintegration@bfh.ch.
Registration for refugees
Refugees who would like to take part in hackathons can already register for the study. In addition to the opportunity to present themselves to potential colleagues and employers. This includes feedback in the form of questionnaires and, in some cases, guided interviews. Participation will be compensated with CHF 20.
