In the domain of scientific instrumentation, it is quite frequent that companies are spun out from research laboratories. Alemnis and Imina are two examples from the EPFL that were founded based on research on micro-robotics. We will go through the innovation process, from the conceptual ideas to the products. We will see how research on piezo-actuators has led to the development of innovative instruments resulting eventually to commercial products.
The talk is divided in three main topics: a) introduction to the piezo-actuators technology, b) the development of the applications, and c) becoming and entrepreneur.
With many years of industrial and R&D experience, as well as in research as head of the EPFL High Precision Robotics Group, Jean-Marc Breguet has been CEO of Alemnis since 2013 and continues to be a pioneer in latest state-of-the-art scientific test instrumentation.
