Two BFH start-ups amongst the 100 most highly promising in Switzerland

27.09.2022 A jury made up of investors and experts has selected the 100 most promising start-ups in Switzerland. Two BFH start-ups – Luya Foods and Threatray – from the sustainable nutrition and IT security sectors are also represented.

This year’s list of the top 100 Swiss startups 2022 also includes two BFH start-ups. BFH actively promotes entrepreneurial initiatives.

Luya Foods AG (in 68th position on the list) produces a plant-based, vegan alternative to meat from salvaged organic okara, a valuable and nutritious by-product of soya milk and tofu production. A major distributor has already added the product to its range. Originally, the product was developed at the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (BFH-HAFL), where one of the three founders studied and one works as a research assistant. The Bern University of Applied Sciences provided them with significant support in the technological development under the direction of Prof. Dr. Christoph Denkel. BFH-HAFL’s technology hall was used for the first production runs.

Threatray AG (69th position on the list) is a Swiss deep-tech company focusing on data-based security analytics. The BFH spin-off successfully convinced major investors of the product’s value in 2021. The malware-intelligence platform developed in-house by Threatray protects companies and public authorities against cyber attacks and enables heavily data-driven analysis of the threat situation through external access. Threatray is a spin-off of Bern University of Applied Sciences which was founded at the end of 2018, by Dr. Endre Bangerter and Jonas Wagner. The company’s SaaS product was launched on the market at the end of 2020 and was immediately well received by major customers.
