We transfer new technologies and expertise gained through our research projects back into the commercial sector, sharing it with our partners in order to develop new products and processes. The BFH Centre for Technologies in Medicine, Health and Sports provides technically grounded, application-oriented and innovative services for SMEs, medical practices, hospitals and sports associations.

Research + Development

The four institutes that are involved in our Centre give us access to expert knowledge across a wide range of technology matters. The individual institutes complement one another and together offer the ideal all-round expertise in the field of technologies in sports and medicine. Our focus is on applied research and development projects which we work on in partnership with industry, hospitals, group practices and sports associations.

Consulting services

At the BFH Centre for Technologies in Medicine, Health and Sports, our work centres on elite sport, prevention, rehabilitation and medical technology – with a finger on the pulse of the latest economic trends and for the benefit of everyone. Our aim is to help individuals increase, maintain or regain their physical capacity and coordination in everyday life, work or sport.

Consulting services for third parties – from prototype to series

We develop functional models and laboratory prototypes in collaboration with our project partners and produce everything from industrial prototypes to whole series in-house.

Encouraging spin-offs and start-up companies

We facilitate access to laboratory facilities for spin-off and start-up companies. The STI Foundation also supports projects that offer potential for technological innovation, providing loans and coaching for young entrepreneurs.

Facilities

At the BFH Centre for Technologies in Medicine, Health and Sports, we develop functional models and laboratory prototypes in collaboration with our project partners, and thanks to cutting-edge facilities, we are also able to produce everything from industrial prototypes to whole series in-house.

The facilities include:

  • flip chip bonding and die bonding equipment for miniaturising electronics,
  • fully automated PCB/BGA pick-and-place robots, printing, assembly and steam soldering machines for series production of electronic components,
  • lasers for precision welding metal and plastics for medical-grade housings or catheters.

Our model for flexible collaboration with industry and business is being put into practice successfully in student theses:

Training + Continuing education

We encourage the qualification of skilled professionals through our bachelor’s and master’s degrees and continuing education programmes. New findings and developments in research feed directly into our teaching, reinforcing our practical approach to the field.
