Ausgangslage

Project setting and goals: This project is carried out within the framework of the IEA 4E Power Electronic Conversion Technology Platform (PECTA) in close collaboration with EMSA. It focuses on developing a White Book on wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor-based industrial variable speed drives, coordinated by Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). The setting is international and interdisciplinary, bringing together research institutions, industry experts, and standardization bodies. A dedicated research roadmap ensures that all relevant topics are addressed and aligned with real industrial needs. The main goals are: - Develop a comprehensive reference on SiC and GaN technologies in industrial drives - Address key barriers such as cost, reliability, and complexity - Coordinate research activities and ensure consistent, high-quality outputs - Bridge research and industrial application, with a focus on practical and economic impact - Support standards and policy development with a neutral knowledge base - Disseminate results through publications, webinars, and conferences The ultimate objective is to accelerate the adoption of WBG-based industrial inverters, improving efficiency and performance in industrial systems, with publication targeted for 2028/2029 .
