Technology & Human Values: Shaping Future Narratives (BID0822)
Technology is not neutral, it embodies values, assumptions, and worldviews. This module explores how our perception of technology shapes its development and implementation, and how these perceptions in turn influence our social structures and individual lives. Technologies such as AI, robotics, and IoT are designed with certain values in mind, but their effects often extend beyond their intended purposes.
In this module, we will examine the narratives that surround technology, the values embedded within these narratives, and how we might define alternative technological futures. We adopt a socio-technological approach to explore both the promises and perils of emerging technologies. Beyond the technology itself, we focus on how our perceptions and value systems determine technology's impact on society.
