Ausgangslage

Project setting and goals This project is carried out within the framework of the IEA 4E Power Electronic Conversion Technology Platform (PECTA) in close collaboration with EMSA. It focuses on developing a White Book on wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor-based industrial variable speed drives, coordinated by Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). The setting is international and interdisciplinary, bringing together research institutions, industry experts, and standardization bodies. A dedicated research roadmap ensures that all relevant topics are addressed and aligned with real industrial needs. The main goals are: - Develop a comprehensive reference on SiC and GaN technologies in industrial drives - Address key barriers such as cost, reliability, and complexity - Coordinate research activities and ensure consistent, high-quality outputs - Bridge research and industrial application, with a focus on practical and economic impact - Support standards and policy development with a neutral knowledge base - Disseminate results through publications, webinars, and conferences The ultimate objective is to accelerate the adoption of WBG-based industrial inverters, improving efficiency and performance in industrial systems, with publication targeted for 2028/2029 .
