Following his studies in Physiotherapy (2001-2005), Dr. Schmid obtained an MA in Pathokinesiology from New York University (2009) and a PhD in Biomechanics from ETH Zurich (2016). After completing a postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School & Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (2018-2019), Dr. Schmid was appointed senior lecturer at Bern University of Applied Sciences, Division of Physiotherapy, where he serves as Deputy Head of Research and Head of the Spinal Movement Biomechanics Group. In 2021, he completed the habilitation process and was awarded the Venia Docendi for Experimental Medicine at the University of Basel, where he additionally serves as lecturer (Privatdozent). His research interests include the biomechanics of the spine as well as neuromuscular aspects of compensatory mechanisms during gait.
