Markus Schär est enseignant à la Haute école spécialisée bernoise HESB et responsable du réseau international et de l'engagement global au sein du département Architecture, bois et génie civil. Il est également responsable du Centre pour le Développement durable et la Coopération, qui a été lancé en avril 2022 en tant que spin-off de la HESB.
Avant son engagement à la HESB, Markus Schär a travaillé plusieurs années dans les domaines de la coopération internationale au développement ainsi que du développement de l'organisation et de la direction auprès d'institutions privées de premier plan dans le monde entier et pour le Programme des Nations Unies pour le développement (PNUD) à New York.
