CV

  • Born and raised in St. Georgen, a small suburb of St. Gallen, Martin Streule has lived and worked in Bern since 1991. He first studied electric bass with Stefan Rademacher and composition with Frank Sikora at the then Swiss Jazz School, then wind orchestra conducting with Hans-Peter Blaser and composition with Urs Peter Schneider at the Bern Conservatory. Today, both institutions are united in the Bern University of the Arts (HKB).
  • In 1997, he founded the MARTIN STREULE JAZZ ORCHESTRA, with which he exclusively performs his own compositions and arrangements. In addition to numerous concerts in various jazz clubs and at important festivals, the ensemble has also recorded five CDs. In 2003, the MSJO won the Jazz Prize of the Zürcher Kantonalbank.
As the music of the current project CHAMBER SCENES became more transparent, more soloistic and thus more chamber music-like, the band name changed to MARTIN STREULE ORCHESTRA.
  • As a guest conductor and artistic director, he has collaborated with jazz and wind orchestras throughout Switzerland, including the Swiss Jazz Orchestra, the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, the Feldmusik Sarnen, and the Lukas Brügger Jazz Orchestra. Martin Streule was also a long-time artistic director of the Bodan Art Orchestra in Eastern Switzerland.
  • He wrote commissioned compositions and arrangements for the following ensembles and institutions (selection): Jazz Orchestra of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Radio DRS 2 (signet for Jazz Orchestra), Zurich Jazz Orchestra, Swiss Army Big Band, Bern Chamber Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Orchestra Bern, Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Bern Conservatory, Interkantonale Blasabfuhr with choir, Symphonic Wind Orchestra of the Swiss Army, Swiss Brass Consort, Expo 02 in Biel.
