Leila Peacock (1981 UK, studio in Zürich, lives in Basel). After studying both literature and fine art, her practice inhabits a place between writing and drawing, exploring the ways these two activities can augment and deform each other. Drawing words and writing drawings, she creates large-scale hand-made essayistic installations that oscillate between the poetic, the comical and the diagrammatic, which are populated by a maniacal marginalia used to embody thought-forms. Her work shows the various influence of medieval alchemical manuscripts, comic books, 18th century satire, sci-fi, experimental fiction, female mystics, elements of her Persian heritage and most recently the traditional english hymnary.

She has been teaching on and off in art schools since 2016 and regularly writes about art for Spike Magazine. In 2020 she co-founded WAVES, an artist lead studio program, which has since morphed into a platform interested in simple subversions of the formats with which artists are asked to display themselves.

Lecture will be held in English.
