Biography
- • Ursula Ganz-Blättler studied history, communication and arts before pursuing a career as film journalist. After ten years in the field she returned to academics and aspired for a professorship in the area of film and television studies. While the primary goal was dead-ended by some serious health issues (i.e. breast cancer and an onset of treatment-related chronic fatigue that took several years to be properly diagnosed and subsequently treated), the respective qualification project resulted - over a longer run than initially planned - in an interdisciplinary habilitation thesis analysing the cumulative narrative strategies of US-American television series. Ten years of a fulfilled part-time teaching position in the field of entertainment and communication studies followed, as a senior lecturer at the University of St. Gallen. On the other hand Ganz-Blättler successfully expanded her civic engagement as a Patient Advocate, notably as a member of the Patient Advisory Board for the Swiss Cancer Institute (SCI). This engagement ultimately led herto accept a part-time position as a scientific collaborator in the context of the PACE project (PAtient-CEntered care and partnerships between healthcare professionals and patients with chronic fatigue. A patient-initiated study; see https://www.bfh.ch/de/forschung/forschungsprojekte/2025-139-800-296/ for details).
