Biography
- Michael von Allmen is working for the City of Bern since 2017 and holds the position of Deputy Heritage Conservator and Head of the UNESCO World Heritage Coordination Office. He studied Architecture and Urban Design at the Technical College in Winterthur and at the ETSAB (Barcelona School of Architecture) in Barcelona. He subsequently worked at the architectural offices of Knapkiewicz & Fickert in Zurich and Rolf Mühlethaler in Bern before founding his own architecture and urban design practice.
He completed further training in Cultural Management at the University of Basel and, in 2023, completed his doctoral dissertation in the field of Urbanism at the Technical University of Dortmund under Professor Dr. Wolfgang Sonne at the Chair of History and Theory of Architecture.
Since 2017, Michael von Allmen has been a lecturer at the Bern University of Applied Sciences in the fields of Heritage Conservation, Urbanism and Real Estate Development. Since 2024, he has also held a teaching position at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland in the fields of Architectural and Urban Design Theory.
