«Digital Twins» live case successfully completed

12.02.2021 Students of our master's programme Digital Business Administration have been working on concepts for developing and digitalising facility management processes and have now successfully presented these to the live case partners at SBB Infrastructure.

The business unit «Mobility Hubs and Facility Management» within the Infrastructure division at SBB AG is responsible for facility management and is looking to use digital technologies such as 3D building information modelling («digital twins») in the future in order to increase the efficiency and quality of its work.

In recent months, the students of our new master’s programme Digital Business Administration have been working intensively on approaches and have developed tailored use cases featuring «digital twins» for SBB. They developed ideas on how existing processes could be digitalised and drafted initial models for data management. They also investigated the impact on existing and future job profiles and working culture.

In their virtual final presentations in January 2021, the students outlined their innovative and integrated solutions to the SBB Infrastructure representatives. As Adrian Wildenauer, Building Information Modelling (BIM) expert at SBB Infrastructure, confirmed, a great deal of valuable input was provided and would help the organisation to pursue its vision of digital facility management: «It has been a pleasure supporting the students in generating impressive, futuristic yet feasible ideas of a digital twin in the construction industry, similar to what has been implemented in many other industries.»
