Promoting technical and vocational education and training in Bhutan

26.01.2024 The School for Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering has on January 24, 2024 signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote technical and vocational education and training in Bhutan with particular focus on wood engineering technology.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Kutshab Tenzin R Wangchuk, Ambassador of Bhutan to Switzerland on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, RGoB, Professor Peter Staub, Director AHB - School of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering, Bern University of Applied Sciences and Professor Markus Schär, Director, Centre for sustainable Development and Cooperation (CDC) in Biel.

The memorandum of understanding states that the Bern University of Applied Sciences – together with the Höhere Fachschule Holz Biel – and the CDC will support Bhutan in establishing relevant and high-quality skills education and training in Bhutan. This will be achieved through system development, technology transfer and staff capacity building. The activities will be based at the Chumey Technical Training Institute in Jakar, where a learning factory will be established.
