New master’s programme at BFH trains experts in sustainability

28.10.2021 Starting in September 2022, Bern University of Applied Sciences will begin offering a master’s degree programme in ‘Circular Innovation and Sustainability’. This new programme prepares students to lead sustainability transformation in business and society. The circular economy is at the heart of this interdisciplinary MSc.

Current global consumption habits are depleting our natural resources. For the circular economy to be successful, we need experts in technical-ecological fields with a focus on business and socio-scientific connections. This is where the new interdisciplinary master’s degree programme ‘Circular Innovation and Sustainability’ at Bern University of Applied Sciences comes in: ‘BFH is playing a key role in establishing the circular economy, by educating a new generation of forward-thinking experts in the field,’ President Sebastian Wörwag states. Students – these future experts in sustainability – will gain expertise on a range of topics, including energy and food systems, land use, infrastructure and traffic, product design, entrepreneurship and both social and digital sustainability. Graduates will leave the programme as highly qualified specialists, ready to spearhead innovative research and provide critical support to businesses and government agencies on questions of sustainable development.

Hands-on studies

The programme is experiential by design: students are encouraged to pursue their own practical projects with university support. Project-based, interdisciplinary learning and development is a cornerstone of this training. This interdepartmental master’s degree programme is aimed primarily at students with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or the sciences. The programme is also open to graduates from other bachelor’s degree programmes.
