- Story
„A semester abroad was one of the best decisions I made during my studies.“
23.09.2025 I had always heard that studying abroad was a worthwhile experience. You get to meet new people, learn about cultures and traditions as well as travel to see new places. That’s exactly what motivated me to take this step.
Key Takeaways
-
A semester abroad brings new teaching methods, exciting cultures, and many friendships.
-
You learn to become more independent and take on responsibility.
-
Being open towards locals is worth it – that’s how the most valuable experiences are made.
Choosing the University
I was looking for a destination that was different from where I lived. Somewhere I could connect with nature and that could also open new doors for me in the future.
Living and Learning Abroad
My main concerns were academic. I wasn’t sure what would it be like to learn new concepts and modules I had never studied before and in another language. I also wanted to find a group of friends who enjoyed doing the same things as I did.
Academically, I’ve learned a lot and experienced different teaching methods. I’ve made friends of different countries and gotten to know various cultures. I’ve also visited new cities and gone on hikes, discovering some truly beautiful places.
International studieren

Tip for Future BSc Industrial Engineering Students
I would say it’s a really great experience. I think it’s very valuable to get to know local people, you can learn so much about them, their culture, and the country you’re in. In my experience, the people I studied with were very friendly and always willing to show me around and help me when I needed it. It’s also a great opportunity to meet international students, make connections, and gain different perspectives of the world. I would tell others not to make friends only with people from their own country.
Personal Conclusion
A semester abroad is not only academically valuable – it’s also a great way to learn independence, take on responsibility, and improve your time management skills.
