Semester abroad

BFH helps to arrange exchange programmes for its students in Europe and further afield.

Swiss-European Mobility Programme, SEMP

Within Europe, student exchanges take place under the umbrella of the EU Erasmus+ programme for education, training, youth and sport. Since the academic year 2014/2015, the funding required on the Swiss side has been provided through the ‘Swiss-European Mobility Programme’ (SEMP).

Requirements for exchange semesters

• Your host institution must have an SEMP agreement with BFH. You can check this by contacting your department’s International Office at BFH.
• You must have completed the second semester before beginning your time abroad.
• You must be proficient in your host institution’s study language(s).

Matriculation and grants

During your SEMP exchange semester, you will remain matriculated at BFH and continue to pay tuition fees. You do not have to pay tuition fees at your host institution.
Grants are issued under the SEMP mobility programme. These amount to CHF 1,900 per semester.

Mobility within Switzerland

Under certain circumstances, you may be able to spend a semester at another Swiss university.

Work placement

Looking to gain practical experience, improve your language skills and get to know another culture? A work placement abroad helps you do all three.

We are happy to help you find a suitable placement with one of our partner companies.

Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP)

Switzerland has taken part in the European Erasmus+ programme as a non-member state since the academic year 2014/2015. The programme supports work placements in Erasmus partner countries.

During your SEMP work placement, you will remain matriculated at BFH and continue to pay tuition fees.
Grants are issued under the SEMP mobility programme. These amount to CHF 440 per month.
