Situation

The LAGO project aims to promote equitable land governance in Mozambique’s Niassa Province, a region characterized by high dependence on agricultural livelihoods, overlapping land rights claims, climate vulnerability, and institutional fragility. Against this backdrop, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has committed to a long-term, phased approach aimed at improving land management systems, facilitating local access to the benefits of natural resource extraction, and enabling local justice actors to protect land rights through rule-of-law mechanisms. To ensure the strategic and economic soundness of this investment, an Economic and Financial Analysis (EFA) is conducted by BFH. This EFA goes beyond preliminary appraisals and delivers ex-ante evaluation that quantifies the program’s expected returns—both financial and social—while integrating risk, equity, and resilience considerations.

This project contributes to the following SDGs

  • 1: No poverty
  • 2: Zero hunger
  • 5: Gender equality
  • 10: Reduced inequalities
  • 13: Climate action
  • 15: Life on land
  • 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions
