Course summary

The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering is aimed at students from varied fields who wish to add a new, interdisciplinary specialty to their existing knowledge and abilities. It is absolutely essential that students be able to think their way into the world of medicine and understand medical correlations.


In addition to soundly based medical and technical knowledge, students learn about the pathway of a medical technical product from development to market readiness. The course of study thus takes on a bridging function between academia and industry. Students become familiar with aspects of fundamental research, development, clinical validation and the licensing process, and acquire market-specific knowledge of medical technology management.

Graduates of the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering can pursue careers in either the medical technology industry or in academia. Students have the opportunity to work on development projects in the medical technology industry while writing their Master thesis or to participate in research projects with a greater focus on fundamental aspects. Successful graduation from the degree programme qualifies students to work on a doctoral dissertation.
