Annual Report 2025

Higher education: a privilege and a commitment

Since the Age of Enlightenment at the latest, schools of higher education have evolved into institutions that develop rational discourse, interdisciplinary research and technological and social progress.

However, to paraphrase Kant, man’s emergence from his self-imposed immaturity requires continuous effort. And this is still relevant today. Fake news and the pursuit of attention over knowledge are undermining rational argumentation. At the same time, selfishness and a sense of entitlement are challenging well-being and participation.

In light of this, it is our duty as an institution of higher education to empower motivated and committed individuals to develop and contribute their potential – for their own benefit and that of society. For higher education is both a privilege and a commitment, and this applies to us as well. The connection between teaching and research is crucial for driving innovation and achieving an impact.

The Annual Report 2025 showcases some outstanding examples of our contribution to a sustainable, digitally mature and caring society. Our aim at BFH is to continue along this path and to play an active and committed role in shaping our society in the future.
