Auto-Mate Robotics and Sprechende Bilder one round further at STAGE UP

01.02.2023 On the Bernese Business Creation Competition STAGE UP, 24 promising young Bernese entrepreneurs pitched their potential business ideas to a top-class jury on 31 January 2023. During the elevator pitches, thirteen teams qualified for the next phase of the competition, amongst which two teams related to BFH.

The BFH startup Auto-Mate Robotics aims to provide innovative solutions to make high-volume and low-volume production automation affordable. It is developing solutions that allow companies that have no experience in robotics to learn the skills to develop their own affordable ad hoc solutions. The three founders Lucas Renfer, Christian Wyss and Charly Blanc have already been involved in similar projects as research associates in the Laboratory for Computer Perception and Virtual Reality of the Institute for Human Centered Engineering HuCE.

The startup Sprechende Bilder (talking pictures), which grew out of a joint research project between Bern University of the Arts and BFH’s School of Health Professions and School of Computer Science, has also made it to the next step of the competition. The startup is developing a prototype digital, image-based communication aid to help overcome language barriers in child emergencies. The communication aid also allows for better and more efficient communication between patients and health professionals.

The Bernese Business Creation Competition STAGE UP is organised by the Entrepreneurship Center of the University of Bern. Bern University of Applied Sciences and be-advanced are cooperation partners of the event. The top 5 will present their project in front of the audience and the jury on the Award Night on 16 May 2023. First place winners will receive CHF 10,000, second place winners CHF 5,000 and third place winners CHF 3,000.
