New Master's degree program in «Digital Forensics & Cyber Investigation»

In April 2020 the Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH is launching a new Master of Advanced Studies in Digital Forensics & Cyber Investigation (MAS DFCI). The digital transformation of society is affecting crime, criminals and criminal investigation. Fighting crime demands trained digital forensics specialists and cyber investigators. To support this goal, the BFH is launching this new MAS program.

The digital transformation of society is affecting crime, criminals and criminal investigation. New cybercriminal methods using advanced technical tools and exploitation are an opportunity for criminals and a challenge for investigators. Crime scenes are becoming virtual, global, and multijurisdictional. Investigating trans-national cybercrime requires modern investigative skills and strong international collaboration. Fighting crime demands trained digital forensics specialists and cyber investigators.

To support this goal, the Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH is launching a new Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) program in Digital Forensics & Cyber Investigation (DFCI).

The MAS DFCI is designed for two groups of professionals: Experienced forensic investigators who want to increase their technical skills in digital forensics and cyber investigations, and Experienced engineers and technicians who want to transition into the field of digital forensics and cyber investigations. Graduates from the MAS DFCI will learn fundamental concepts of modern digital forensics. They will develop the skills needed to collect and analyze digital evidence from a variety of sources, and have the ability to conduct complex cyber investigations.

The MAS DFCI starts in April 2020 and is organized into 4 taught semesters (CAS) and a final master’s thesis. The program has an international scope and is taught in English.

The new DFCI Master program leverages existing expertise at BFH to create a digital forensics and cyber investigation MAS. The Research Institute for Security in the Information Society RISI of BFH conducts research in the fields of cryptography, malware analysis, security engineering, e-voting and secure IoT systems.

The continuing education courses at Bern University of Applied Sciences Engineering and Information Technology are geared to the current needs of business, society and culture. They consider the constantly changing and global environment. BFH offers an interdisciplinary range of CAS modules, which can be combined into various EMBA, MAS and DAS degree programs. The thematic focuses are Innovation, Management, Digital Health, Information Technology, Data Science, Digital Transformation and Cyber Security. The topic area Digital Forensics & Cyber Investigation has also been added.
