Situation

This project will feature case studies of personalities, festivals, clubs and other institutions at a time of change, revolt, consolidation and ennoblement. In the period under investigation, important festivals, colleges and record labels were founded, musicians organized themselves, were accorded state subsidies for the first time, and made a significant contribution to the development of free jazz and jazz-rock. Jazz journalism also became professional. ‘Growing up’ is the first research collaboration between all the jazz institutions of tertiary education in Switzerland, and will culminate in the practical testing and implementation of the results.
