Situation
Already during his studies with Wladimir Vogel, Meier’s compositions were characterised by an individual approach, and he developed this thereafter in a manner both radical and consistent. It led him in the 1950s to a method of composition using large-scale graphic plans.
Course of action
The research project Composing with the eyes asks what role these plans played in Meier’s development towards his radical compositional stance. His more than 200 graphic plans are to be examined in the same manner as his works written in conventional notation. In a later phase, several selected plans will be realised in an electronics studio in collaboration with the Music and Media Art study area at the Bern University of Arts.
