Situation

Emergency medical services face growing pressure due to increasing demand, an ageing population, and a shortage of qualified personnel. At the same time, emergency professionals must capture and document extensive information while providing patient care. Documentation is often performed manually under challenging conditions such as time pressure, noise, mobility, and complex emergency situations. This consumes valuable attention, increases the documentation burden, and makes complete and timely recording of relevant information more difficult. AIDoKS addresses these challenges by developing a multimodal AI assistance system for prehospital emergency care. At its core is the processing of spoken communication between emergency professionals, patients, and other participants. Documentation-relevant information is automatically identified, structured, and combined with additional operational data, such as vital signs. This information can support emergency documentation and patient handovers and be made available for subsequent processes. The project aims to reduce the documentation burden, improve the completeness and quality of documentation, and enable a continuous flow of information across the emergency care pathway. Particular attention is given to data protection, data security, medical terminology, and practical usability.

Course of action

AIDoKS is a binational German-Swiss research and innovation project conducted within the IraSME framework. The Swiss part of the project is funded by Innosuisse. Together, the project partners develop and evaluate the multimodal assistance system under realistic EMS conditions.
