Visiting students at Bern University of Applied Sciences

Are you studying at a foreign university and interested in taking a semester abroad at Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH? Foreign students can apply to take one or two visiting semesters at BFH.

BFH has extensive international links and maintains close relations with foreign partner universities within and outside Europe. Student exchange agreements allow students from both partner institutions to acquire valuable experience in an exchange semester. Within Europe, student exchanges take place in the context of the EU Programme in the fields of education, training, youth and sport, Erasmus+. Since the academic year 2014/15, the grants for incoming and outgoing students and staff are being paid by Switzerland in the framework of the «Swiss European Mobility Programme» (SEMP, formerly Erasmus). However, procedures and conditions remain the same.

Planning ahead

Get in touch with the international affairs staff of your home university in good time to help you get your exchange semester organised.

Partner institutions

If you’d like to do an ERASMUS/SEMP study period at BFH, there must be an exchange agreement between it and your home university. Enquire about this at your university’s International Relations Office.

Local contacts

We recommend that before leaving for Switzerland you register with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN).

ESN is a Europe-wide student organisation that works for the social and personal integration of exchange students. This work involves organising welcome parties, events, excursions, and personal support during your stay. In addition, exchange students can be met on arrival at the airport if they so desire. As an ERASMUS/SEMP student, you also have the opportunity of being mentored by a Bern student. Your mentor will be there to help you during your stay, answer any questions that you may have and offer advice and practical assistance.

ESN offers exchange students all-round support. It can reduce the stress of arriving in a new place, simplify things when you’re here and help you make your stay even more fun.
