Interactive Storytelling (MYG1159)
This module is conceived as an introduction to interactive storytelling through scripting and narrative system design.
It focuses on the creation of time-based and user-driven narratives using Ren’Py, an open-source engine based on Python. Ren’Py is approached both as a technical tool and as a writing environment, enabling students to experiment with different forms of storytelling, from linear scripts to complex, multi-path narratives.
Through a series of guided exercises, students progressively build their own interactive project. The course encourages experimentation with tone, genre, and format, including visual novels, fragmented narratives, or hybrid media projects.
You learn to:
-
write and structure interactive narratives using Ren’Py.
-
implement branching storylines, choices, and conditional events.
-
combine multiple media formats, including text, image, sound, and video.
-
control pacing, sequencing, and user interaction within a narrative.
