Appointment of a new director for the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Bern University of Applied Sciences
26.03.2026 The University Board of Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH has elected Prof. Dr Roger Filliger as the new Director of the School of Engineering and Computer Science. He will take up the post on 1 April 2026.
Prof. Dr Roger Filliger has been the Head of Teaching of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH-TI) since 2020. In this role, he has been responsible for the further development and safeguarding of teaching activities, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has undertaken many successful projects. These include the relocation of the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology division (2022), which had a positive impact on costs, the introduction of the bachelor’s degree programme in Data Engineering (2023) and the cooperation agreement with the Haute École Arc (HE-Arc). From 2014 to 2018, Prof. Dr. Filliger was head of the MSE cooperative master at the BFH-TI School and was involved in the nationwide assessment and redesign of the degree programme.
Prof. Dr Roger Filliger has been a lecturer in mathematics at BFH-TI since 2007. He has developed and teaches basic modules in mathematics at bachelor’s and master’s level, supervises graduation theses and conducts research at the IEM and IODA institutes. In addition, he has been a guest lecturer at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) since 2019.
Following the completion of his doctorate in Applied Mathematics at EPFL, he assumed a postdoctoral position in mathematical physics at Bielefeld University, working within Peter Reimann’s group, and was supported by a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His educational background also includes a degree in Mathematics from the University of Neuchâtel and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Roger Filliger began his career as a mechanical draftsman at Schurter AG.
