Cooperation between Bern University of Applied Sciences and SIPIZ AG

02.11.2022 The Swiss Institute for Testing, Inspection and Approval (SIPIZ AG) and the Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering Department at Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH-AHB conclude a cooperation agreement. The two organisations are striving for a long-term and sustainable partnership in which the focus is on the interaction between education, research and development, along with a wide range of services for the best possible customer care.

The cooperation agreement creates a comprehensive and integrated offer in the field of material and component testing, further training, as well as research and development. BFH-AHB and SIPIZ AG are strengthening the existing partnership with a framework agreement in order to further expand the cooperation and to strengthen the positioning of both organisations as leading providers in the field of fire protection. This creates a joint “fire protection competence centre” for all materials and a wide variety of applications.

The interplay of research and development as well as materials and components testing

The two accredited and notified institutes form the basis of the cooperation. These are supplemented by the strong research and development department at Bern University of Applied Sciences and its extensive educational range. BFH-AHB and SIPIZ AG already offer joint courses in the field of fire protection. This range is to be further expanded as part of the framework agreement in accordance with the principle of “customer satisfaction through quality”.


A centre of excellence for wood that is unique in Switzerland has existed in Biel for over 60 years. The Higher Technical School of Wood Biel has close ties with the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in Wood Technology, as well as the research and development and continuing education activities of the Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering Department at Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH. Under this structure, the reputation of this unique centre of knowledge and innovation extends far beyond Swiss borders and is the source of many success stories for different companies in the wood industry.


As a notified and accredited testing, inspection and certification body, SIPIZ AG offers fire protection services. The notified and accredited range combines Swiss expert knowledge with European laws and standards. The Swiss economy continues to benefit from an independent Swiss solution and active participation in European standardisation and legislation.
