The opportunities and challenges of our globalised world

15.09.2020 A successful BFH Summer School 2020: Cross-Cultural Communication and Diversity. In today’s globalised world, the ever-increasing level of diversity in society undoubtedly presents both opportunities and challenges. We want to identify, analyse and cultivate these.

This year, 30 participants took part in the one-week BFH Summer School. Whether during the theatrical communication training or on a voyage of discovery through the multifaceted subject of Culture, Diversity and Communication, there were plenty of lively discussions between the students from various departments and institutions. We now know that culture is ubiquitous and is continually developing – it never remains static. Methods for an enriching approach to diversity were developed and practised – always with an eye on self-reflection.

The module is open to all BFH students and can be counted towards the Certificate of Global Competence, which gives BFH students the opportunity to gain skills in the areas of inter- and transculturalism as part of their regular studies. In this way, we are preparing ourselves for the globalised world.

Students from the Department of Social Work, the Department of Health Professions, the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences, the Department of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen all contributed their own subject-specific perspective during the week. There were also a few participants from our partner universities Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), the University of Bern, FH Joanneum in Graz, and AgroSup in Dijon.

We would like to thank all the participants and teaching staff for their valuable contributions and look forward to the next BFH Summer School in 2021!
