Research tools for practical application

As part of our research work, we develop measurement instruments and assessment tools for use in various areas of physiotherapy practice. The tools and related publications are available to download here free of charge.

Stoop-Squat Index

The Stoop-Squat Index is a tool for quantifying whole-body lifting strategy. It describes the relationship between upper-body forward lean and lower-limb flexion on a scale from 0 (complete squat strategy) to 100 (complete stoop strategy). The index is calculated based on the vertical displacement of the C7 spinous process and the centre of the hip joint and can be determined using standard video recordings.

Quality-First

Quality First is a tool for assessing the quality of movement in jump tests. As part of the process of returning to full physical activity following the completion of rehabilitation, ‘physical performance tests’ such as these jump tests are carried out to assess the functional capacity of the lower limbs. As a rule, a purely quantitative comparison is carried out, in which, for example, the jumping distance between the affected and unaffected leg is determined. It is always emphasised that the execution of the movement is of crucial importance. However, suitable tools to record this are often lacking. Quality First offers the possibility to record, assess and quantitatively evaluate the quality of movement using scoring sheets.
