Business Information Systems Engineering (BISE)

Our Business Information Systems Engineering (BISE) research group designs and implements applications for the collecting, integration, management, search and analysis of data.

Our research group

We develop applications for structured and unstructured data using modern methods processes and technologies. Our expertise covers various areas of application (CRM, administration, GIS, strategy planning and implementation...).

Range of services

In cooperation with national and international partners from industry, administration and universities, we carry out application-led research projects on information-oriented applications:

  • Concept formulation and architecture design
  • Provision of advice and expertise relating to technologies and business cases
  • Modelling and consulting with regard to business processes and data models
  • Design, development and evaluation of information systems
  • Prototype implementation of applications
  • Provision of individual training

Areas of expertise

Modelling and analysis of data structures

The storage and the management of structured data in an SQL database require a carefully designed data model, as subsequent changes usually involve significant time and effort. Having many years of experience, we can offer you advice on modelling for operational and decision-oriented applications. Furthermore, we support you in the development of complex queries and evaluations.

Unstructured data

Unstructured data is becoming increasingly important, both in operational information systems and decision support. We also have many years of expertise in the application and analysis of this data, be it unstructured texts, multimedia or geographical data.

Agile Prototype Development

When developing new applications, we rely on agile methods such as Design Thinking and Scrum. This allows us to design key functions efficiently, to test alternatives and to develop meaningful prototypes. In particular, we also focus on new technologies and trends in software development.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The analysis and the visualisation of spatial data generate new information and offer intuitive insights into questions with spatial relevance. We support the design and implementation of spatial data analyses as well as the development of associated databases and geographic information systems based on Esri ArcGIS or open-source GIS solutions.

Public Management

We have to a large extent established our experience and expertise in projects with and for public administrations. Accordingly, we have comprehensive sector knowledge and specific competencies that allow us to usefully introduce the latest concepts and technologies in this field.
