CAS Rebuild Ukraine: Tackling the next phase together

23.10.2023 The CAS Rebuild Ukraine starts today for 30 participants. This is the second year that the course is being held, this time led by Dr Mariana Melnykovych and Prof. Norbert Winterberg. The vision is unchanged: refugees from Ukraine learn how they can support the reconstruction of their country once the war ends. And at the same time, they develop solutions for the sustainable built environment of tomorrow.

The CAS is a pioneer project launched by Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) provides administrative and organisational support for the programme. Several other Swiss universities are involved as partners to promote the exchange of knowledge for Ukrainian refugees in Switzerland. Various Swiss companies are opening their doors and giving participants an insight into their know-how through courses or excursions. Companies and private individuals are providing sponsorships that cover the costs of course fees and expenses for the students. The result is an ever-growing collective of Swiss and Ukrainian stakeholders who work, teach, learn and make a difference together.

The success of the programme was impressively demonstrated at the conclusion of the first CAS course in July this year: the students had developed six projects together, all of which are ready to be translated into practice once the necessary financial resources become available. The CAS lasts around four months and will conclude on 22 March 2024.
